Water

TBT water samples should be collected in  a 1 L amber glass bottle with Teflon lined lid.  The minimum sample volume is 0.25 L otherwise detection limits will be increased.  Store and ship samples at 4 C.  Samples can be field preserved with 1 mL of acetic acid.  Literature indicated hold times of up to 4 weeks, however we reccomend a hold time of 2 weeks.

Sediment

Sediment should be collected in a glass jar (>100 mL) with Teflon lined lid and stored at 4 C or frozen until analysis.  Recommend hold time is 2 weeks for thawed samples and 4 weeks for frozen.

Biota

Biota samples should be collected in glass jars with Teflon lined lids or in aluminum foil pouches and stored frozen until analysis.  A sample size of 10 g is recommended (small sizes will lead to increased detection limits).
